As we all know, international travel is pretty limited right now, especially for US citizens. But, my fellow Americans, there’s no reason to despair because some of the world’s most iconic cities are in your own backyard. Now’s the time to treat yourself to a well-earned staycation right here in the states. Let’s dive into the best US cities for a luxury break.

New York City, NY
Come on, I had to mention New York. It’s one of – if not the – most famous cities in the world. The city is full of iconic sights, such as the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Centre and Central Park (to name but a few) so why not go full tourist and try to check off as many as possible? New York is also home to some of the world’s best restaurants, amazing nightlife and of course, first-class shopping. There’s no better place to treat yourself.
New York is very hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter, so spring and autumn are the best times to visit. However, there really is something enchanting about the city at Christmas, so don’t let a little snow put you off.

Miami, FL
Miami is my home. Although I love traveling the world, this city will always have a special place in my heart. It’s one of the best US cities in terms of climate, with beach-worthy weather all year round. Miami really has everything I love in a city: it’s glamorous, multi-cultural and home to some incredible food. You get a beach vacation and a city break all in one and there’s so much upscale entertainment to keep luxury jetsetters entertained. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, I highly recommend the St. Regis Bal Harbour where I recently enjoyed a staycation – you can check out my full review here.

Las Vegas, NV
Viva, Las Vegas. I think of Vegas like Disneyland for adults. It’s a city of excess. Whether you want to dine at some of the world’s finest restaurants, be wowed at a show, shop ‘til you drop or ride the world’s tallest roller coaster, you’ll definitely find a suitable way to indulge in Sin City.

Austin, TX
Austin regularly tops the list of the best US cities to live and work, and it’s also a great choice for an all-American staycation. It’s an affordable city with a high standard of living and one of the best live music scenes in the country. There’s plenty of natural beauty to enjoy too, with lots of parks, lakes and hiking trails to explore. Austin is the perfect place to kick back, relax and soak up some seriously good vibes. Things are just bigger and better in Texas.

Chicago, IL
The Windy City boasts art, museums and a skyline to rival that of New York. There are many multicultural neighborhoods to explore, each with their own unique food scene, as well as an abundance of parks, a free zoo and, of course, Lake Michigan. I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in Chicago and absolutely loved it.

New Orleans, LA
This eccentric and vibrant city truly is one-of-a-kind. In many ways, New Orleans rivals Las Vegas as a party destination but there’s more depth to it somehow. Perhaps it’s all the spooky folklore and haunted Creole buildings, or maybe it’s the city’s deep musical roots, but there’s something utterly fascinating about New Orleans. There are plenty of shows, festivals and concerts for you to enjoy as well as rich cuisine and beautiful architecture. It’s definitely a bucket list destination and one of the best cities in the US for a fun staycation.

Nashville, TN
Nashville should be on every music-lover’s bucket list, particularly if you’ve got an interest in country. In fact, musicians all over the world flock to the musical hub of Nashville so you never know, you might just run into Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran as you explore the city. Be sure to check out the chilled-out “Listening Rooms” where you can watch singer-songwriters perform and try to catch a show at the famous Ryman Auditorium.

San Francisco, CA
San Francisco is a vibrant, diverse and creative city that will charm you in no time. There are many iconic sights to enjoy here, such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Pier 39, as well as wonderful shopping and delicious food. You should also visit the notorious island prison of Alcatraz on a super creepy day trip and catch a glimpse of the wonderfully absurd and famously crooked Lombard Street.
