Quick Guide to a Successful Email Marketing Campaign

feminine-workspace

Entering the blogging and digital marketing space is not for the faint of heart. You’ll need to learn the basics and I’m here to give you your first nugget with this successful email marketing guide.

I used to think that a read email was a successful email campaign. You know, the ones that don’t automatically get thrown into the bin, or worse, the dreaded spam folder! There is so much more to it, so if you’re on the fence then check out this successful email marketing guide.

An email marketing campaign by definition is an email sent from a business to one or more customers or prospects. A successful email marketing campaign will cause the recipients to take some sort of action, engage with your business, and help you to get more leads and sales. However, email marketing plays into the very growth of your brand and is more than a simple means of announcement. Research has shown just how effective of a tool email marketing truly is, and when done correctly, it can generate better leads and potential revenue.

So, how does one create an actionable campaign? With this simple guide to a successful email marketing checklist, we’ll analyze an email from end to end with the idea we want to ensure every email you send not only looks great, but gets opened, read, and that the reader takes the action you’ve directed them to take.

1. Build an Email List with a Target in Mind

Remember, it’s not about quantity, but the quality of leads that matter. Leads that are interested in what you have to offer.  Website visitors would be the first target you’ll soon realize in this guide to successful email marketing. Convert them into your email subscribers. Offer something they want. After all, they came to your website for a reason. Give them more of that!

2. Plan Ahead. Then Execute

Every successful entrepreneur all started with a plan and a road map to success. As they say, if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. The same goes with creating an email campaign. You have to plan properly what the campaign is all about, how you would want the subscribers to respond to your campaign.

Listed below are typical campaign goals:

  • welcoming subscribers
  • boost interactions and engagement
  • foster existing subscribers
  • re-engage inactive subscribers

3. Not all emails are created equal.

You have to keep that in mind. You have to know whether you will send a promotional email, relational email or a transactional email. All three are beneficial for your business and key to creating a successful email marketing campaign. The target List you created for your subscribers will be very handy the moment you decide which email type should you send to your list.

Promotional emails are for those leads you wanted to convert into potential sales.

Relational emails are mostly for those loyal and repeat customers.

Transactional emails are mostly for subscribers or customers who responded to your “call to action” (CTA).

4. Know your Audience

If you’re just starting out with email campaigns and everything seems very bleak and unfamiliar to you, you have to make some educated guesses. By doing so, you will be able to create the content for your first campaign. Check your Google Analytics and your social media profiles to aid you with your audience. This will help you curate content for your target audience. That’s a good starting point for crafting successful email marketing campaigns. You don’t want to create content that is too formal and strict when your target audience are teenagers. This will just discourage them from subscribing to your content.

5. Use Technology to your Advantage

With more business coming into existence, companies created automations in the email marketing world. Creating a successful email marketing campaign includes the use of email marketing apps and tools are utilized by different entrepreneurs. Mailchimp, Convertkit, and Klaviyo are few of the apps that offer easy campaign creations with templates and workflows, integrations for your currently used apps and ecommerce software and most importantly, in depth analytics that will help you assess your performance.

Of course, do a web search and check examples of email campaigns that can be effective in generating leads and sales. Think about what makes those emails effective. Is it the content or is it the tone? Could it be both? Most likely but be sure you have your voice in the emails themselves and you’re certain to convert those leads into sales.

Think about how your emails are presented too. One tool I use to create the visual aspects of my emails and other content is Canva. There’s a free version that does a lot of heavy lifting for you.

1. Uber

Uber’s email campaign is very simple, yet tasteful. We love how Uber gets straight to the point in their newsletters.

2. Buzzfeed

Newsletter became one of BuzzFeed’s top sources of traffic.

3. Headspace

Headspace is a guided meditation app. The structure of their newsletters is good for those who don’t have time to scroll down long emails. So, it is brief and simple and direct to the point.
